1969 Chevy Nova's......

Postby stump » Sat Oct 04, 2008 8:38 pm

Well, having a spell from Mopars.....two in one year is enough....for now..

I have a 69 Camaro back on the bench, as well as 1 or 2 of these new tool Nova's from Revell.. thumbsup to Revell, great kit indeed....

The first rendering is going to be a "what if"....Baldwin Chevrolet turned out some bada$$ cars during the late 60's - early 70's...s'pecially when they teamed up with Motion Performance.... 8)
I've looked all over the net, and not had a whole lotta luck finding many of these beasts, so this build is what I would've ordered, back in 1969....
The entire go fast goodies catalog is getting thrown into it, along with what I class as, a most outrageous paint scheme....

This is what we got so far.....
Chassis, all extra (not needed) holes for mounting standard exhaust etc..filled. Fuel tank redirected..(only slip up Revell made..fuel tank is backwards.. ..)-(easy fix)
Image

Paint and decals..Decals from Revell Chevelle..took some convincing that this was to be their new home, but I got them on in the end....
Other accessory decals from Keith Marks, indicator/427 decals SS etc...
Paint is Tamiya TS-16 (?)....Yellow, but not chrome yellow....
Image
Image

Motovation is from a BB427, stolen from a Camaro... Motion rocker covers from Amt Camaro kit, machined pulleys from Detail Master, dissy from ModelCarGarage....
Image

And this has consumed my time whilst waiting for paint to dry.....
1969 Nova 4-door sedan....gonna be getting a 6-banger/auto, duel bench seats...steelies and poverty caps.....
Image

I've been getting help from a mate in the U.S. who told me the roof should maybe be approx 2-3mm longer....so I started hacking up the rear of that this arvo.... :o
I'll adjust the C pillar so it's a little more vertical than what it is in this pic..
Hope to have some updated pix by the end of the weekend.

Seeya all soon..
Greg

Well, after finally getting a couple of nice painting weekends in a row, she now wears a good coating of clear...you can barely feel the decal ridge..(if ya really try.... ..)
Not 100% happy as I had to do some touch-ups on the black, and of course..it doesn't match the decal colour.......aaahhhhhhhhhhh !!..
Got the front down to where I wanted also...very east how-to in my album if ya follow the pics.

Image

Just a belly shot while testing a fit of everything under....The large M/T's fit gooooooood.....

Image

Last weekend I made up some Gabriel Hi-jacker shockies..They are the kit items, I cut them in two, removed approx 3mm and used the hollow shaft
of a cotton bud to join them back together..It's a perfect fit over the fat end and enables you to adjust them to height as you install them. :D
I made them look like Motion had them specifically made to order....

Image

After they were "bolted" in (tiny RB-Motion nuts and bolts) I added all the brake lines...my eyes have only just recovered..... |)

Image

The build so far, along with how I lowered that front end.....http://public.fotki.com/Greg5000/revell-125-1969-nov/page2.html
I'm working on the front end again now...so maybe an update by Sunday night.
Thanks for dropping by..

How did Revell manage to get the tank on backwards?
Did someone slipped up while assembling the master they supply to the mould makers, or did they use a wrongly rebuilt trailer queen as a guide?

I suspect we'll never know but modellers will now forever think of this one as the Nova with the backwards tank.

Thanks Raymond, Yelgem and Fred.. :)
Yeah, weird huh....To their (Revell) credit Fred, I believe the backwards tank issue has been addressed....newer issues have it fitted the correct way.
Makes you wonder how it happened at all but, hey.....It's like all the print media these days....no proof readers......

Cheers Cowboy.

Man, I've had a really slow summer so far.....even the evenings are too hot an sticky to keep me at the bench for long.... :(
But....there has been progress...... :D
Yellow Nova (verbal/written) update...
After many sleepless nights (well, one or two) pondering what to do with regard to how I stuffed the decals, it is now nearing completion.
Today was spent finishing the interior, it is now inside the body. Rear end is complete with wheels fitted. Motor is glued in.. :D Glass and BMF are done.
Bumpers and grill have lights/lens installed and had a "wash" of black here and there....
Tomorrow I just have to finish the exhaust system (been a secret til now.. ..) and add that once the body/chassis is all together.....YAY... :D
Pics to follow once complete.....

Green 1969 Nova SS-350 (502) ?
Ok, this one is still got a ways to go, just something to give you a hint of whats coming.....
Being built along the lines of something your grandmother might go to the shops in......boring, plain jane wrapper....all mumbo unda da hood.....

Image

Underside...fuel line plumbed with filter/pump.

Image

Modified kit SB headers to suit BB. Also added pipe extensions to enable a stock exhaust to hook up to it...

Image

Spent a lot of time on these things the other night...not hard to make, just fiddley....

Image

An overall shot of the motor, modified the rocker covers and added p/etch "502" badges to them, auto box has a tip stick, as well as the motor..

Image

63-67 ProMod Corvette
This is getting built as a CBP on a U.S. forum. I used to race it many years ago as a slot car..Time for a freshen up..

Image

1/12 Tamiya Datsun 240ZG
Ok, this is only a teazer......
Scored off ebay just the other day, only took 7 days from Hong Kong, including a weekend and New Year......I was stoked when it turned up so quick. :D
This will definitely be a looooong and detailed build. I've gathered lots of pics off the net to aid me in a most realistic and accurate build possible..(for me...)

Comparison.....1/24 version by Fujimi along side..

Stay tuned folks.....it's gonna be a busy year.....
ALL the pics and progress will be @ Fotki. http://public.fotki.com/Greg5000/

Cheers
